Welcome to Harrow Lawn Tennis Club

It is believed that Harrow Lawn Tennis Club was founded in 1880, three years after the first championships at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in 1877. Today, our club has over 250 members. Harrow School leases its 12 courts and a small pavilion within its beautiful grounds to our club. The courts are named The Beckwith Courts after two Old Harrovians, Peter and Sir John Beckwith, brothers who enjoyed their tennis and funded the tennis court facilities.

We welcome members of all abilities and ages, including those with disabilities, and provide a safe, friendly place to play tennis year-round, whether you prefer relaxed social play or competitive tennis. In addition to in-house club tournaments and box leagues, we enter teams in the Middlesex Summer League every year, a tradition that began in 1970. Back then, we entered only two teams; now we enter up to 12, ranging from Premier Division to Division 9, giving everyone the opportunity to enjoy match play. We also enter teams in the Middlesex Winter Floodlit and Vets leagues.

In addition, we enter 3 teams in the daytime Spring and Autumn Charity ladies leagues.

Social tennis is an important part of our club. Please see the details below of social sessions.

We have a thriving junior section, and coaching for all abilities is available; details are below.

Alongside our enjoyment of tennis, we enjoy ourselves off court as well, and have an active social diary, including quiz evenings, Pimms, and end-of-season parties.

I will also direct you to our Policies page, which provides details of safeguarding policies, which we take very seriously. Please read these, as it is everyone’s responsibility to be aware and to report to me anything you see that is of concern.

We look forward to welcoming you to our club. Our courts are situated at the bottom of Garlands Lane, Harrow-on-the-Hill and are accessible. (Please see the map.) Our Pavilion is shared with Harrow School Golf Club members and is approximately 600 metres from the courts, which have toilet facilities. The nearest toilet facilities to the courts are at the School Sports Centre, which is approximately 300 metres away via a steep hill.

Harrow Lawn Tennis Club Courts

The Beckwith Courts were completed in 2005 as part of a major redevelopment of Harrow School’s playing fields that began in 2002. The project replaced older facilities, including relocating the drill square and tennis courts. Twelve new acrylic courts had replaced the School’s old all-weather ones and the new courts named the Beckwith Courts after brothers Peter Beckwith OBE (Elmfield 1958) and Sir John Beckwith CBE (Druries 1960), who jointly funded them.
